What’s New for the 2024 Tax Year

  • Increased Standard Deduction

    • Married Filing Jointly: $29,200

    • Single Taxpayers: $14,600

    • Heads of Households: $21,900

  • Adjusted Tax Brackets

    • Inflation-adjusted brackets, with the top rate of 37% for high-income earners.

  • Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) Exemption

    • Increased to $85,700, with phaseouts at higher income levels.

  • Child Tax Credit Updates

    • Remains a valuable benefit for families, with adjustments for inflation.

  • Retirement Contribution Limits

    • Limits for 401(k)s, IRAs, and other retirement accounts increased, allowing for more tax-deferred savings.

Our Tax Return Process

  1. Engagement Letter

    • You’ll receive it via email. Please sign promptly— no work can begin until we have a signed copy.

    • If you can’t sign online, feel free to mail, drop off, or stop by our office to sign in person.

  2. Document Submission

    • Securely upload your documents through our client portal only.

    • Any documents sent via email will be deleted for security reasons.

  3. Preparation

    • Our experienced team carefully prepares your return with the data you’ve provided.

  4. Review & Approval

    • Using SafeSend Returns, you’ll be able to review, approve, and sign electronically.

  5. Filing & Payment

    • We will not file your return until payment (per the engagement letter) is received.

    • Once everything is in place, we e-file your return securely.

Security

To protect your privacy and ensure compliance with data protection regulations, we've implemented a policy for handling sensitive information. Please do not send documents or sensitive data directly to our staff via email. Any email containing unsecured data sent directly to a staff member will be deleted. Instead, please use our secure Canopy client portal for all document submissions. This ensures your information is protected at every step.

Important Deadlines & Automatic Extensions

  • Business Tax Returns (Forms 1065, 1120-S): Due March 15, 2025

  • Personal Tax Returns (Form 1040): Due April 15, 2025

To guarantee timely filing, please have all documents uploaded:

  • Business Returns: 3 weeks before March 15

  • Personal Returns: 2 weeks before April 15

Any information arriving after these windows will automatically go on extension to ensure accuracy and compliance. If you suspect you’ll owe taxes, we’ll help estimate and submit a payment by the due date.
